Two Types, One Card: Dual Fusion Brings a First to TCG Pocket

Pokemon TCG Pocket has a name for its new era, and it is a good one. Dual Fusion, the first expansion of the C Series, launches on October 28, and it introduces something the game has never had before. For the first time in Pocket, a single card can carry two types at once, and that small change opens up a lot of new thinking for anyone who loves building decks.

Two Types at Once

The two headline cards show the idea off perfectly. Mega Mewtwo X ex carries both Psychic and Fighting, while Mega Greninja ex carries both Water and Darkness. A card with two types can work alongside support built for either type, so combinations that never fit together before suddenly have a home.

Mega Greninja ex is the one I keep coming back to. It has 200 HP, and its Splash of Darkness attack does 100 damage while stopping the Defending Pokemon from retreating on the next turn. That is a sneaky and very ninja way to win a game, trapping a target in place while the damage adds up.

Familiar Faces, Fresh Cards

Dual Fusion arrives in two booster packs, one led by Pikachu and one led by Mega Mewtwo X. The trailer also showed Pikachu ex, Mew ex, and Fuecoco ex, along with brand new cards for Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, so the Kanto favourites are getting their moment alongside the new Megas.

Mega Dragonite ex might be the most dramatic card of the bunch. Its Draconic Meteor attack picks one of your opponent Pokemon at random and does 250 damage to it. Nobody chooses the target, not you and not your opponent, which makes every use of it a small event all on its own.

A Busy Second Anniversary

The timing is no accident. Pocket celebrates its second anniversary right as Dual Fusion lands, and a celebration campaign runs from October 29 to December 14. Every player will receive a ticket that can be exchanged for a booster pack guaranteed to include a two star card, which is a lovely way to start a new collection.

Six Dual Fusion rental decks will also be available from launch until December 15, including decks built around the two dual type Megas. Trying a deck before chasing its cards is a kind and smart idea, and more players should get to test ideas this way. Promo reissue events in late October and early November will bring back B Series promo cards, and Ranked Match Season C1 follows from November 30 to December 14.

A Year of Pikachu

One more celebration is already live. The Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions began on October 20 and run all the way to October 20, 2027, marking 30 years of the Pokemon TCG. Players who log in for 10 days can earn a special immersive Pikachu ex that is only available from this event, plus Pikachu packs and accessories.

Then, from October 31 to December 26, Special Pack First Partners introduces special packs to Pocket for the first time. These packs open with their own stamina, which refills once a week, and every pack is guaranteed to contain a one star card celebrating the first partner Pokemon of all nine regions.

Dual Fusion feels like the right way to start a new series. The pace of releases is slowing down, the anniversary rewards are generous, and the headline mechanic genuinely changes how decks get built. Save some hourglasses, enjoy the celebrations, and get ready to think in two types at once.
