Pocket Slows Down, and That Is Good News

Pokemon TCG Pocket is about to change in a way that should make a lot of collectors smile. In a producer letter published today, October 16, the Pocket operations team laid out the next series for the game, which starts at the end of October. Packs will arrive more slowly, collecting will reward patience, and battling is getting brand new tools, including the first dual type Pokemon in Pocket history.

A Slower Pace for Collecting

Until now, new Pocket packs have arrived roughly every four weeks, and the team says players told them that pace made collecting feel hard. In the new series, packs will arrive roughly every six weeks instead, giving everyone more time to open, trade, and enjoy each release at their own pace.

The extra weeks will not sit empty. The team plans more events and missions, and immersive cards will also be earnable as mission rewards for completing collections, alongside the immersive cards found in packs. Collecting well, not just collecting fast, is suddenly worth a lot more.

First Partners Get a Pack of Their Own

The sweetest addition is a special pack called First Partners. It celebrates the first partner Pokemon from each of the nine regions, so beloved partners like Piplup and Fuecoco both get a moment. This pack works differently from a normal pack. It opens with its own stamina, which recovers once a week, so it becomes a small weekly ritual.

Event missions will also hand out one star promo cards with artwork in a shared theme. New missions arrive each week for three weeks, and finishing each set earns one of three illustrated promos. The Fuecoco ex below, from 30th Celebration, shows how much love these Pokemon get in the physical game too.

Battling Opens Up

On the battle side, dual type Pokemon are the big debut. A card carrying two types can work with support for either type, which opens up deck building in brand new ways. Mega Mewtwo X ex, shown earlier this year as the first example, carries both Psychic and Fighting, and players will test new combinations for weeks.

The physical Mewtwo ex above, from Destined Rivals, is a reminder that Mewtwo has been bending rules in the paper game for a long time. Pocket is about to get its own version of that fun.

Deck building gets friendlier too. A new Community Decks feature will let players browse decks that other players built, then copy one using their own cards. Rental decks also improve. They will be ready as soon as a new pack releases, they can be used without a limit on plays, and they can now be taken into versus battles. Limited battle events are also coming, with rules that limit which cards can enter. Wins earn accessories and promo packs, and the rules reward creativity.

Small Changes That Help Every Day

Trading and sharing are getting thoughtful touches as well. Players will be able to check which cards of any rarity a trade partner still needs for their card dex, and to spot cards sitting on a share partner wish list. That removes a lot of guesswork from a fair trade.

A slower Pocket does not mean a quieter Pocket. It means more time with each set and more ways to play with the cards you already own. The new series starts at the end of October. Until then, finish the sets you love, save your hourglasses, and get ready to collect at a pace that finally feels human.
