Z Marks the Next Era: Mega Lucario Z ex Heads Japan's Aura Seeker

The biggest card reveal of the 2026 World Championships closing ceremony was not saved for 2027. In San Francisco at the end of August, The Pokemon Company showed off Mega Lucario Z ex, the first Z Mega Evolution to appear in the physical Pokemon TCG. It headlines Aura Seeker, the next Japanese MEGA era set, reported for November 27.

Lucario has carried the franchise since Generation 4, and its Mega form has always been a collector favorite. A Z form is brand new territory: Mega Lucario Z first appeared in the Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, and now the card brings it to the tabletop with an ability that shares the set's name.

The Card: Mega Lucario Z ex

Mega Lucario Z ex, the first Z Mega Evolution card in the Pokemon TCG

Mega Lucario Z ex is a Metal type Stage 1 that evolves from Riolu, with 330 HP. Its ability, Aura Seeker, lets you search your deck for a Supporter card and put it into your hand once per turn while it sits in the Active Spot. Reliable Supporter access every turn is the kind of consistency that makes competitive players sit up straight, and collectors should expect this one to be talked about for a long time.

The attack is Dancing Fist, 120 plus another 120 when the opponent's Active Pokemon is a Pokemon ex. Two hundred and forty damage for two Energy against the exact targets that matter most is genuinely threatening. And like every Mega Evolution ex, it gives up three Prize cards when it is knocked out, so the reward for answering it is as large as the card itself.

The Sidekick: Sigilyph ex

Every strong attacker needs a counter, and Aura Seeker is delivering one from the other side of the equation. Sigilyph ex, card 031 of 78 in the set, carries the ability Mega Protector, which prevents all damage done to it by attacks from your opponent's Mega Evolution Pokemon ex. In a format full of big Mega attackers, that is a pointed design choice.

What Else Worlds 2026 Told Us

Mega Lucario Z ex was not the only reveal. Pokemon also showed four brand new Mega Attack Rares: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zygarde ex, Mega Greninja ex, and Mega Rayquaza ex, with the note that they are still in development and could change. The Mega Attack Rare is still a young rarity, and putting it on names like Rayquaza, Greninja, and Darkrai signals that the concept is sticking around.

The bigger headline might be ex Star, the new series name revealed on stage alongside the Johto Legendary Beasts. Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are confirmed as the first Pokemon of the ex Star era, though Pokemon has not explained how the new cards will work or when the first ones will release. The company is simply asking fans to wait for the next announcement.

What to Watch Before November 27

Aura Seeker is reported for November 27 in Japan with 78 cards, set code M7. An English edition is expected afterward, though The Pokemon Company International has not confirmed a date or a set name yet.

If you plan to chase the Japanese product, start making your import plans early. Japanese release stock can be genuinely hard to find once the initial wave sells through, and a first ever Z Mega Evolution will not lower the demand.

While you wait, the regular Mega Evolution Lucario still holds its own on a shelf. The Special Illustration Rare of Mega Lucario ex from the Mega Evolution base set is one of the prettiest cards of the era, and it is sitting in stock right now.
