Day vs Night: The 30th Celebration Battle Decks Arrive October 30

The 30th Celebration keeps rolling, and the October wave has one more surprise waiting at the end of the month. On October 30, two new Battle Decks hit the Pokémon Center and retailers: one led by Espeon ex, one by Umbreon ex. Day versus night, sunshine versus moonlight, and each deck hides a promo you cannot get anywhere else.

What is in the box

Both decks follow the same recipe. You get a complete 60 card deck where every single card is foil, built around its star Pokémon ex and ready to play the moment you open it. Each box also comes with a deck box, a playmat, and a coin, so a newer player truly has everything needed for a first game night. Pokémon marks both decks Play Level 2, a step up from the kid friendly starter products, which makes them a sweet spot for someone who has played a few games and wants a real deck in hand.

Then there is the hook that will get collectors talking: each deck includes one exclusive illustration rare style promo card. The Espeon ex deck comes with Victini, and the Umbreon ex deck comes with Zeraora. Neither promo appears in any other product, and in a year where every 30th Celebration promo has drawn serious attention, these two are going to be watched closely.

The promos to watch

The Victini promo is numbered MEP 102, an 80 HP Fire type with Call for Family to fill the Bench and V-Flame for 50 damage. The Zeraora promo is MEP 103, a 110 HP Lightning type with Rapid Draw and Electrobullet, which snipes 20 onto the Bench. Both cards wear the gold anniversary Pikachu coin mark in the corner, the little stamp that has tied the whole celebration product line together.

Cute factor alone, these are winners. Victini floats against a bright sky full of clouds, while Zeraora prowls a cliff edge under a night sky with lightning crackling around it. Displayed side by side they are the day and night of the set, and a matching pair is going to look fantastic in a binder.

Why this one matters

Here is the honest part. Retail on these decks is $19.99 USD (about $28.50 CAD), but early preorder listings have already climbed well past that. Market watchers had the Espeon ex deck around $45.50 and the Umbreon ex deck near $69.41 in early October, which tells you demand is real before a single deck has shipped. Umbreon tax is alive and well.

Anniversary products have a habit of selling through quickly and then getting harder to find, and a fixed exclusive promo is exactly the kind of thing that keeps demand warm long after release week. If either deck is on your list, whether as a gift, a first real deck, or just for the promo, it is worth planning ahead rather than hoping shelves are still full in November.
