The 30th anniversary party keeps finding new rooms. Santa Cruz Skateboards just revealed a lineup of 30 official Pokémon TCG skateboard decks, each one built around the artwork of an iconic card, and they go on sale worldwide on October 17 in randomized blind bags. If you thought your collecting budget was safe after the 30th Celebration wave, think again.
The lineup
This is not a handful of character graphics slapped on wood. Each deck measures roughly 20 by 80 centimeters and uses the original Pokémon TCG card artwork as the centerpiece of an expanded design themed on the card’s Energy type and the Pokémon itself. The 30 designs span nearly the whole history of the game, from the Base Set starters to the Mega Evolution era. Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise hold down the classics, while picks like Lucario LV.X, Gengar EX, Umbreon V, Glaceon VSTAR, M Charizard EX, and Iono’s Bellibolt ex cover the eras in between.
This is actually the second time these two brands have teamed up. The 2023 collab had 20 character focused decks, so the anniversary edition goes bigger and ties every board to a specific card instead of just character art.
The chase is real
Yes, there is a chase. Beyond the 30 standard designs, three extra glitter gold foil decks round out the release, each one a collage of Pokémon TCG cards from different international versions of the game. Each gold variant is limited to only 500 decks worldwide and sits outside the standard 30. Every blind bag also includes a limited edition Player’s Guide booklet showing all 30 designs, which makes chasing a full set a lot more fun.
The cards behind the boards
What I love most about this collab is how it sends you straight back to the cards. The Lucario board celebrates Lucario LV.X, a stone cold classic of its era, and Lucario ex from Stellar Crown is in the store right now if you want the Pokémon in card form. His Low Kick swings for 50 and Aura Knuckle hits for 120, and that artwork still pops.
The Gengar board goes with Gengar EX, and Mega Gengar ex is sitting in the case as we speak. Shadowy Concealment punishes your opponent for knocking out your Darkness Pokémon, and Void Gale swings for 230.
The takeaway
The decks launch worldwide on October 17 at 9:00 AM EST, with matching apparel and griptape rounding out the collection. Pricing has not been announced yet, and going by the 2023 run, the popular designs will not hang around long. Whether you ride it or hang it on the wall, this is one of the coolest anniversary crossovers yet.
