The 30th Celebration wave is barely behind us, and The Pokémon Company is already looking ahead. Full details for the next set in the Mega Evolution era landed this week: Mega Evolution: Delta Reign opens its prerelease window on October 24, with the full set launching November 6.
The set holds more than 135 cards, and the first batch of English card reveals is already out in the wild. But for most of us, prerelease weekend is where Delta Reign will first land in our hands.
The four prerelease promos
Every Build & Battle Box comes with one of four stamped promo cards, and each is an alternate art version of a card from the set. The four options are Masquerain, Magmortar, Enamorus, and Kommo-o, numbered 111 through 114 in the Mega Evolution promo series, and pulling a specific one is a one in four shot per box.
Each promo points toward a very different prerelease deck. Masquerain powers up Bug Out, an attack shared by a swarm of its teammates, while Frightening Pattern can lock the opponent out of attacking for a turn. Magmortar brings Buddy Boost, an Ability that attaches Fire and Lightning Energy from your hand to itself and its partner Electivire, building toward a huge Voltaic Hammer. Enamorus unlocks Incarnate Solidarity, which ignores all Colorless Energy in its attack costs once Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, and Enamorus are all in play, while Rising Heart punishes opposing Pokémon ex for serious damage. Kommo-o is the most direct of the four: Beat Scales piles Basic Energy from the top of your deck onto your Dragon Pokémon, and then Hammer In hits for a massive 170.
How prerelease works
Prerelease events run October 24 through November 1 at participating Play! Pokémon stores. Each Build & Battle Box includes a 40 card ready to play deck, four Delta Reign booster packs, and your promo. Games use the smaller 40 card decks with four Prize cards instead of the usual six, so matches stay quick and every card in your pool matters.
It is one of the friendliest entry points into the game. You do not need a built deck, and the format rewards smart, simple play over complicated combos. For collectors, the promos are the draw: they only come from these boxes, and each one carries the Delta Reign stamp right on the artwork.
What the early reveals tell us
Even before a single pack has been opened, the set is shaping up nicely. Early English reveals include a striking Raikou, a Meowscarada ex with an interesting attack line, and an Eevee illustration rare that collectors are already watching. One of the most talked about cards is a Nidoran with physically embroidered artwork by illustrator Tayu, a lovely nod for fans of crafted, textured card art.
One more thing worth knowing: the first wave of Pokémon Center preorders for booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, and booster bundles sold out quickly. With demand running that hot, the prerelease window may be the earliest many of us get to open the set, which makes it a great time to check what your participating store has planned.
Delta Reign is shaping up to be a strong mix of play and collect appeal. If you have never been to a prerelease, this is a genuinely good one to start with: four distinct promos, a fast and fun format, and a brand new set of cards to explore. Have fun out there.
